\nThere are\u00a0several reasons<\/a>\u00a0why nobody else has built an alternative to the EpiPen, among them patent protection, fear of\u00a0creating a device that doesn\u2019t work reliably, and a regulatory process that makes getting products to market incredibly difficult.
\nMylan did bow (a little) to public pressure, announcing a new generic EpiPen that costs\u00a0$150 for a single device<\/a>. But industry insiders\u00a0have suggested<\/a>\u00a0that the components of\u00a0an EpiPen cost only around $30.
